UniNet: a hybrid approach for universal broadband access using small radio cells interconnected by free-space optical links
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new type of broadband access system is proposed for providing high-quality, bandwidth-upon-demand telecommunication services to the home and office. Communication terminals attach to the network via short radio links, and users can roam freely within a house or building unencumbered by the availability of wired “telecommunications outlets.” Basic service is extended through small, high-capacity radio cells; the base stations are interconnected via short, highly focused free-space optical links in a multihop mesh arrangement; and the need for new broadband access cabling is totally surmounted. A tiered arrangement of radio cells further extends service to both out-ofbuilding pedestrian and vehicular users, and service is universally available. Benefits of the approach are described, and issues involving reliability, availability, capacity, and hand off are identified and addressed. Opportunities to refine the basic approach are suggested for further study.

Using Multiple Input Multiple Output as Hybrid Free Space Optics/Radio Frequency Links
This paper describes overview and definitions about Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) formats which can be used in hybrid Free Space Optics/Radio Frequency (FSO/RF) links. Free space optical links allow obtain high speed data transmission without optical fibers. This type of communication is dependent on weather properties and line of sight is needed. This fact has negative influence on inf...

We present numerical techniques that allow efficient modeling of the transport of broadband services over fiber-optic links in access networks using various technologies. Application examples of Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC), Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) systems and 10-Gb/s Ethernet transport over multimode fiber are provided to demonstrate the value of simulation during the R&D and deployment phases of pr...

The aim of this paper is to fully analyze the effects of free space optical (FSO) communication links on the estimation performance of the adaptive incremental networks. The FSO links in this paper are described with two turbulence models namely the Log-normal and Gamma-Gamma distributions. In order to investigate the impact of these models we produced the link coefficients using these distribu...
متن کاملSignal Optimization During Radio Links Between a Transmitter and a Receiver Located in Adjacent Material Media with Differing Optical Densities (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Signal optimization is affected during radio links between a transmitter and a receiver located in adjacent material media with differing optical densities. The optimization is carried out via the automated control theory method. The radio signal obtained after the optimization is coordinated with the two media's electrical characteristics simultaneously; and this enables low power and small an...
